In the home, God desires men to provide a loving and tender environment for spiritual nurturing and instruction. They are to be godly examples and mature disciples, teaching their wives and children how to walk in truth and be faithful to the word of God. They should seek to build godly qualities and characteristics into their families so that they might continue faithfully in the word of God and be true followers of Jesus Christ.
In the church, God intends for men to grow and mature spiritually and to take responsibility for passing spiritual truths on to the next generation of believers. God desires men to serve humbly as leaders, discipling others in biblical truths, reproducing in them the character of Christ. Christlikeness should be the goal that men strive for, not only for themselves, but also in the lives of everyone in the church. God wants men to take seriously the mandate that the Apostle Paul gave to his young disciple Timothy. He wrote to him and said, "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also", II Timothy 2:2.
Meeting Times In order to help men become faithful examples and leaders and teachers at home and in the church, Men's Ministry at CBC meets monthly. For two hours (8:00 - 10:00 a.m.) on the 3rd Saturday of every month, men are invited to come and fellowship over breakfast and be instructed in biblical principles that lead to spiritual maturity and faithful living. The word of God is taught in a relaxed atmosphere and discussed in an informal way that allows everyone to participate and learn.
The Book of Hebrews Our curriculum for this year is from the Life Change Series by NavPress, entitled, A Life-Changing Encounter with God's Word from the Book of Hebrews. It is an expository study intended to strengthen us spiritually. (1) It emphasizes the superiority and glory of the Lord Jesus Christ; (2) it stresses the need to grow and mature spiritually; (3) it emphasizes the need to be obedient to the Scriptures; and (4) to learn what is required to endure spiritually; (5) it teaches what faith is and illustrates it in the lives of men and women who endured countless trials successfully; (6) it explains how God uses trials and sufferings to discipline us so that we live lives of holiness and righteousness; (7) it teaches how to anchor ourselves spiritually so that we are not moved away in our faith in the Lord Jesus; (8) it stresses the need to encourage and strengthen other believers to love and do good works; and (9) it teaches how to finish our lives faithfully for the Lord.
In addition to attending monthly breakfast meetings at CBC, men are encouraged to meet at least one other time during the month with one or more other men in order to reinforce the previous biblical teaching and to encourage one another to live faithfully for the Lord. This principle comes from Proverbs 27:17, which says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Hebrews 3:13 also cautions us to encourage one another ... lest any of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin."
